UK Employee Voluntary Benefits
Everyone at MPM would like to welcome you to our website! For 30 years, The MPM Group has provided and administered Voluntary Benefits designed to supplement core benefits provided by the University.
If you are a NEW UK employee (within 60 days of hire), several of these Voluntary Benefits are available without answering a lot of health questions. If you do not elect to participate in the first 60 days (30 days for long-term disability buy-up), stricter underwriting guidelines (more health questions) will be asked for some of these benefits, and coverage could be denied. It is important to not delay in reviewing these benefits.
Most of these Supplemental Benefits have common features that include:
Discounted Costs
Payroll Deduction (Some are pre-tax)
No Medical Exams
Portability - Most plans may be continued after employment ends on a direct bill basis.

Click this image to see how pre-tax premium deductions combined with policy features of Critical Illness, Cancer, and Accident plans can inexpensively help reduce the risk of paying deductibles, co-insurance, and other non-medical living expences if you have an accidental injury or severe illness.
Click this button to Register & Enroll in any of the 7 benefits below. You will be taken to our enrollment vendor, Employee Navigator. Your Company Identifier is "University of Kentucky" when registering.

lf you are already enrolled in a Voluntary Benefit and have questions about it, please call our office at (859) 223-4973.

Short-Term Disability Income: "Paycheck Protect®" is designed to provide an income when you cannot work due to an illness or off-the-job injury. Faculty are not eligible for this benefit (click HERE if you are faculty). Guaranteed coverage is available during your first 60 days of employment (pre-existing conditions including pregnancy are also waived). The plan also covers disability resulting from child birth (if the birth occurs 10 months after the Effective Date of Coverage) and Mental Illness. Plan A has a 14-Day Elimination Period, and Plan B has a 30-Day Elimination Period. Both plans pay benefits up to 6 months if your doctor requires you to be off work. Maximum coverage is 70% of Basic Salary or $1,400 per week, whichever is less.

If you have a Trustmark Short-Term Disability Insurance policy that was offered prior to 2021, the maximum benefits and corresponding rates are below. Please refer to these rates if increasing coverage.
Voluntary Long-Term Disability (VLTD) Buy-Up: Financial planners consider this to be one of the most important coverages to have. This plan allows employees to purchase coverage equal to 10% of their base salary. This 10% can help fill the gap between your pre-disability salary and the University provided 60% LTD benefit or Social Security Disability. This benefit is tax free and not offset by other forms of disability benefits. Guaranteed coverage is available during your first 30 days of employment.
"Protect your most valuable asset...your paycheck. Don't risk a 40% paycut."

The Hospital Indemnity plans pay money directly to the insured and can be used for anything including deductibles, co-insurance, and personal expenses. They complement UK's Saver and PPO health plans.
- Low plan pays $1,500 if admitted to hospital and $100/night.
- High plan pays $3,000 if admitted to hospital and $200/night.
- Both plans pay $100/visit to an Urgent Treatment Center (5 per yr. max) per covered person.
- Both plans pay a $100/yr. Health Screening Benefit for qualified diagnostic tests per covered person.
Family coverage is available. No health questions. No pre-existing condition limitations. If you are planning a procedure that requires a hospital stay, this plan is a must! See Policy below for full details and exclusions. Post-tax premiums.

Critical Illness: This plan provides a lump sum benefit ($5,000 - $50,000) to help pay deductibles, co-insurance, and living expenses when someone experiences a severe critical illness like a heart attack, stroke, major organ transplant, and others. Coverage is available for spouses too. These benefits are not offset by health insurance benefits; and all payments are paid directly to the insured. A $100/year Health Screening Benefit is also included. Pre-tax premiums. Polices are issued by AFLAC.

Group Cancer Insurance: This plan is designed to help offset indirect out-of-pocket expenses associated with cancer treatments and 29 other specified diseases. Guaranteed coverage is available during your first 60 days of employment. Benefits are paid directly to the insured regardless of any other health insurance coverage in force. A $100/year Wellness Benefit is also included for each insured person. Pre-tax premiums. Polices are issued by Allstate Benefits. Please contact us when a covered dependent child turns 26 so that we can make the necessary changes to policy/premium.

Accident Insurance: This plan is designed to help take care of unexpected bills related to injury accidents (even sports-related) that occur everyday. Accident insurance provides benefits for initial care, injuries, and follow-up care that are a result of a covered accident. These benefits are not offset by health insurance benefits; and all payments are paid directly to you. A $100 Health Screening Benefit is also included. Pre-tax premiums. Polices are issued by Trustmark Insurance Company. Please contact us when a covered dependent child turns 26 so that we can make the necessary changes to policy/premium.

Universal Life Insurance: Available to employees and their spouses, children, and grandchildren. Guaranteed coverage up to $125,000 is available to employees (ages 18-64). Issue ages are 18-75 for employees and spouses. Children/Grandchildren between ages 1-22 are eligible.
This permanent type of life insurance is designed to be there for you now and in retirement. Please note that while term-life and group term-life are important coverages in your younger years, 99% of term-life policies never pay a death claim because it gets too expensive as you near life expectancy. Reasons to enroll in universal life include:
- Perfect for Final Expenses/Burial Policy
- Provides LIFE-LONG coverage.
- Cheaper than waiting and converting group term life at retirement.
- Death Benefits as low as $10,000.
- Can also be used as a charitable gift.

MetLaw Group Legal: Quality legal assistance can be pricey. And it can be hard to know where to turn to find an attorney you trust. But for a low monthly fee, you can have a team of top attorneys ready to help you take care of life’s planned and unplanned legal events. This plan also provides credit monitoring and identity theft protection.
